Please welcome Oracle Ace Ric Van Dyke who will present and discuss these topics on December 4th.

BIO:
Ric is an Oracle Ace with over 35 years of experience in the IT industry. Coming from a 3GL programing back ground he started working with Oracle Version 6 as a developer with Forms 2.3 and became a DBA at Ford Motor Credit.  He then worked at a variety of companies as an independent consultant.  Ric worked for Oracle Corporation for 10 years, starting as a core database instructor where he taught and developed several courses.  He became the Education Manager of the North Central Region.  Ric then served in the Advanced Technologies Services consulting group as a Technical Manager where he worked with several clients doing RAC installs and performance engagements.  Since 2005 Ric has worked at Hotsos Enterprises as a trainer and consultant.  Currently he is the Education Director at Hotsos where he coordinates training activities.  He also teaches both in-person and on-line training.  Ric frequently speaks at user group meetings and gives on-line webinars.

Abstracts:

Using SQL Developer:  As a DBA and a performance specialist having the right tools is key to success.  This presentation with show some basics about using SQL Developer to do both basic DBA tasks and help with performance optimization of SQL statements in particular.

Journey to the center of the Cloud: A look at Oracle Data Blocks:  This presentation will dive deep in to the core of the Oracle database, the Data Block.  Right down to how columns are stored and the overall block structure.   Also discussed will be what happens to rows as they are updated and if different block sizes really make a difference. 

SQL Optimization:  For the rest of the day the presentation will focus on how to go about optimization SQL selects.  The select statement is the core of any application and optimization really is about how to make statements do the least amount of work to get the results needed. Topics to be covered: Logical IOs, Reading Execution Plans, Indexing, Access Methods, and Joins.

Continue I-71 North to exit 14 (Ronald Regan Highway).

Turn left onto Ronald Regan Highway (HW 126).

Stay in far-right lane.

Take the First exit to Kenwood Road (Blue Ash) and Turn Right.

Turn Right at the Next road, Kenwood Road .

From Dayton, OH:

Take I-75 South to East I-275.

Take the I-71 South to Cincinnati ramp.

Take the First exit to Kenwood Road (Blue Ash) and Turn Right.

Turn Right at the Next road, Kenwood Road .

From Columbus, OH:

Take I-71 South to Cincinnati.

Go under I-275 and continue I-71 South to exit 14 (Ronald Regan Highway).
